Someone said 'Happy Wednesday!' to me when I went jogging this morning. :) It's not really been 'Sunny San Diego' these few days but at least some people are making an effort to be happy. W says it does not rain that much in San Diego, so I guess I am definitely 'lucky' to catch that drizzle yesterday.
I realized again I've been neglecting this blog. The past 2 weeks have been pretty crazy weekends. I went to surfing AND Disneyland the weekend before (and I stood even longer!!! haha but that might have to do with the over-sized foam board I rented). It was California Adventure Park the Sunday that has just passed (I went to a series of Neuroscience talks on Sat which I will blog about too :p). We had a 2 park offer for our Disney land ticket so we had free entry to California Adventure as long as we went back within a month. It was pretty cool. Lotsa 3D shows to throw you off your feet, there was an Aladdin spectacular which I really enjoyed despite being apprehensize about actual people acting out cartoon characters. I went on the Biggest Roller coaster Ride I ever went on (yes I am a wimp) and it was the first time I actually screamed on a ride (embarrassing!!! haha).
Work has been going well (I hope my supervisors feel the same way). I needed to visited a school to speak to the staff members and deliver recruitment letters to the students and parents. W gave me a ride there. I played 'Miss Independent' and took the buses when returning from the school. It's always interesting when I take long bus journeys. People are so friendly here, I ended up having 2 memorable conversations within that 1.5 hour journey. There was a nice old lady orginally from the Phillipines whose husband just passed away last October. She was really helpful when I asked for advice on where to stop for my next bus. And there was Melvin, 48 years old, and a plumber. He gave some tips on how to see San Diego. I said I will remember him even though we would probably not see each other ever again. :p
I did catch a glimpse of how life can be hard for people who have a handicap. The buses here are like the UK where there are ramps and space within the bus for wheel-chair users to board (they even have bicycle racks in front of the bus so that you can bike and ride if you are tired). A blind couple got out of the same bus as me, but a little later than I did. I did not catch what happened, but before I knew it they were 'cussing' and scolding some of the passengers who have gotten up the bus. You only enter and leave the bus by the one door at the front of the bus. The couple was complaining that those passengers did not wait for them to get off the bus before they boarded. They were pretty angry about it. We were waiting for different buses, but 20 mins into waiting, they asked another passer-by if the 15 has gone by. Again I was chatting with Melvin so I had no idea what was going on. When the passer-by told them that the 15 has just left they started 'cussing' and scolding again. Apparently one bus had stopped and they asked the bus driver what bus it was, the bus driver told them it was the number 1. They thought that could have been the 15 and the bus driver was 'playing' them. I was thinking it could have been when a bus number 1 stopped and a bus 15 stopped right behind it. They could have been asking the bus number 1 driver and it was all a misunderstanding. Still it must be really hard for them to be travelling around.
